A plumber shutting off the main water valve in a flooded Minnesota basement

We answer 24/7

24/7 Emergency Plumber in the Twin Cities

Burst pipe, sewer backup or no hot water? Call (763) 296-1844 for a 24/7 emergency plumber anywhere in the Twin Cities, from Ramsey to St. Paul.

What to do in the next five minutes

Call us first, then do whichever of these fits. Each one limits the damage while a plumber is on the way.

1

Water pouring out? Shut off the main.

In most Minnesota homes the main shutoff sits in the basement where the water line comes up through the floor, next to the meter. Turn it clockwise until it stops. Then open a faucet on the lowest floor to drain the pressure.

2

Water heater leaking? Cut its supply.

Close the cold water valve on the pipe going into the top of the tank. Set a gas heater to "pilot" or turn off the breaker for an electric one. Keep kids and pets away from the hot water.

3

Sewage coming up a drain? Stop using water.

No flushing, no showers, no dishwasher or laundry. Every gallon you send down has nowhere to go but back up through the lowest drain, usually the basement floor drain.

4

Smell gas? Get out first.

Leave the house, leave the door open behind you, and do not flip switches on the way out. Call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Once the utility says it is safe, call us for the gas line repair.

Not sure where your shutoff is? Our guide to finding and testing your main water shutoff valve takes five minutes on a quiet day.

Emergency, or can it wait until morning?

If you are on the fence, call. We will tell you straight if it can wait for a regular appointment.

Emergency plumbing questions

Do you offer 24 hour emergency plumbing? +
Yes. We answer 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays. Call (763) 296-1844 and tell us what is happening.
How fast can an emergency plumber get to my house? +
We put urgent calls first and give you an arrival window when you call. How soon depends on where you are in the metro and how many emergencies are already on the board, so we will tell you honestly rather than guess.
Will I know the price before the work starts? +
Yes. The plumber looks at the problem and gives you an upfront price before any work begins. Nothing starts until you say yes.
Where is my main water shutoff? +
In most Twin Cities homes it is in the basement, where the water line comes up through the floor beside the water meter. It is either a round wheel handle or a lever. Find it and test it before you ever need it.
Is a sewer backup an emergency? +
Yes. Sewage in the house is a health hazard, and running more water makes it worse. Stop using water, keep people and pets away from it, and call us.
My pipes froze but nothing has burst yet. What should I do? +
Open the faucet the frozen pipe feeds so melting ice has somewhere to go, and warm the area gently with a space heater or hair dryer. Never use an open flame. If you cannot find the frozen spot, or the pipe is already split, shut off the main and call us.
